Info About Antares

Antares or Alpha Scorpii is a red supergiant star of classification M1. It is the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius and one of the largest known stars. The name Antares comes from the Greek phrase, “rival of Ares” i.e rival of the planet Mars due to both being bright red objects in the sky. Antares is about 600 light years from Earth and is several hundred times larger than the Sun.
